… First Aid/CPR Training/WHMIS/AHLA
Our experience has been that part of building effective and successful
teams in the workplace requires addressing the issue of Health and Safety,
as it relates to both Staff and Clients. It is important that, from top
to bottom, specific issues and risks are addressed and staff and management
teams are given the tools to deal effectively with situations.
Further,
the potential liability issue that may exist within the business setting,
along the importance of maintaining
governing body certifications, was one of the driving factors that led us to offering training in, what we call, Vital Skills.
- First Aid / CPR Training (Canadian Red Cross)
- WHMIS Training
- Alcohol Intervention –"It's Good Business" Program for F&B Staff and Managers (AHLA)

First Aid / CPR Training (Canadian Red Cross)
Our courses have a unique approach in that we have developed a structure
involving team teaching and group presentations that really allow participants
to own the learning process and enjoy the course as leaders in learning
rather than simply as listeners. It has proven to be a great way to
develop strong skills and offer an enjoyable day or two of training!
As certified Instructors with the Canadian Red Cross, our Vital Skills
Facilitators offer full First Aid and CPR Training Courses. The approach
is dynamic and involves hands-on skill development while building confidence
in participants so that they will be comfortable taking ownership in
emergency situations.
Courses do meet all provincial and federal standards and are accepted
through all governing bodies that require staff to be trained in any
the following areas:
- STANDARD FIRST AID: 2 day
- EMERGENCY FIRST AID: 1 day
- CPR Training: 1/2 to 1 day
- RECERT Programs: 1/2 to 1 day
Note: Both of our First Aid Courses INCLUDE
infant, child and adult CPR.
First Aid Training Courses can be run on site or at a facility that
we use for training in your area. The space needed to run the courses
is typically enough space to set up round tables for the group, plus
at least the same amount of room again in open floor space. This
area is for practical
skills development.

WHMIS Training Programs
Our hands-on approach to WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
Systems) allows participants to not only learn the material, but
also to use the required material and demonstrate learned skills.
WHMIS training is essential and, in most cases, is a required element
of staff training within companies. Due to a number of requests,
we have developed
a program that covers the necessary components of staff training
and gives employers the necessary information to ensure that ideals
are
followed in ensuring a safe work environment.
- WHMIS Full Course Training: 1 day
- WHMIS Orientation Program: 1/2 day

Alcohol Intervention Program - 'It's Good Business'
As a certification with the AHLA (Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association)
and in conjunction with the AGLC (Alberta
Gaming and Liquor Commission),
we are now offering the Its Good Business Program. It offers a full
certification and a solid training foundation while meeting industry
insurance standards
as required.
Although it is not yet mandatory to have F&B staff and management
fully trained in this area, insurance companies are almost making it
a necessity.
Companies from large hotel corporations to neighborhood pubs are finding
it a great asset in dealing with the safety and well-being of both
staff and guests.
This 1/2 day program includes some practical work, role-playing, group
work, video training, some great discussions followed by a final exam
that is sent to AHLA upon completion.
Programs are additionally framed to meet your specific needs which
may differ somewhat depending on the type of outlet, clientele, staffing
levels and so on.
The agenda includes topics that are meant to help managers and servers
understand and promote reasonable alcohol services.
This is so important to many of our service-industry clients; understanding
that servers and Providers have an inherent legal obligation to ensure
the safety of their customers, and of others that they may harm, relating
to alcohol sales.
